sichuan spirit unshaken in art

On 12 May 2008, a massive earthquake hit Sichuan province, China, causing hundreds of thousands to lose their lives and rendered the living homeless.

Together with Sichuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, CityCare organized a charity art exhibition cum auction at The Luxe Museum to raise funds for the Sichuan earthquake victims. The 97 pieces were donated by Chinese artists, most of them from quake-shaken areas.

Over S$370,000 were raised from the three-day exhibition, and the funds will be used to construct a new school, as well as educational sponsorship for tertiary students.

The art exhibiton was part of a CityCare relief effort package, which also included donation of tents, food and clothing supplies, as well as financial support for needy single-parent families. [ ]

	Time Out Program with Bendemeer Secdonary CityCare organized a one day program for the students of Bendemeer Secondary School. [ ] NEW SINGAPOREANS TRAINED IN CANBERRA PRIMARY SCHOOL The entire P1 and P2 cohort of Canberra Primary School completed the 10-week NEW SINGAPOREAN module, which cumulated in separate CIPs for a total of 390 beneficiaries. [] CARETALYSTS OUTING @ SETTLERS' CAFE Twenty-two CityCare Caretalysts turned up for a special post-exam gathering during the week-long September holidays. The Caretalyst Card was also launched during the event, which the Caretalysts can use to accumulate points and exchange for gifts each time they volunteer at a CityCare event. [] CIP @ Bethany Methodist Nursing Home More than 30 student leaders from Chua Chu Kang Secondary School planned and executed a one-day program at Bethany Methodist Nuring Home. Together, they enjoyed a series of classic games like Bingo! and Passing-the-Parcel. To cap things, 3 students also put on a song and dance item to entertain the residents at the Home. [] CARETALYSTS BBQ @ EAST COAST PARK Sixteen youth Caretalysts and CityCare staff had a great time interacting with each other at a special gathering at the East Coast Park during the June holidays.[]
