The massive May 12 earthquake that shook the grounds of Sichuan caused hundreds of thousands to lose thier lives and left many more homeless.
However, the spirit of the people of Sichuan has stood firm and unshakable in the face of this traumatic disaster.
CityCare is partnering the Sichuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to help the victims rebuild their lives.
In early August, a charity art exhibition cum auction was held at The Luxe Museum to raise funds for the Sichuan earthquake victims. Chinese artists, mainly from the quake areas, donated 97 art pieces speically flown into Singapore for the exhibition. .
Over S$370,000 were raised from the three-day exhibition, and the funds will be used to construct a new school, as well as educational sponsorship for tertiary students. The exhibition is part of a series of relief effors initiated by CityCare, which also included donation of tentages, food and clothing supplies, as well as financial support for single-parent families.
